Paris

It's amazing to me when I look back at how much has happened in my life in the past couple of years. Just in the past year-and-a-half, I got engaged, got married, bought a house and a car, got a cat and most exciting of all, we're expecting our first child in just a few months time.

That little chain of events began in Paris, in November 2014. Liz and I went on a long weekend (we've found a love for visiting popular tourist cities off-season around November time—get the weather right and you get the great city with fewer other tourists in the way) to Paris, staying in a small AirBnB apartment just across the river from the Eiffel Tower.

I knew I wanted to propose to Liz that weekend and had the ring ready—with all the stereotypical stress of hoping she didn't notice I was carrying it too early and that the security check for the Eurostar wouldn't force me to produce it in front of her—but didn't have a distinct plan other than to propose somewhere private. Much as Paris is full of romantic locations, we're both extreme introverts and I knew the worst thing for Liz would be to have an audience!

In the end we got to our apartment and I couldn't hold it in anymore, so I proposed before we went back out for some dinner and thankfully Liz said ‘yes’!

It's been a whirlwind, fantastic eighteen months and with our first anniversary coming up next week I couldn't be more excited about the little one who'll be joining us in the summer.
