Getting some air at the FoS rally stage

Canon EOS 40D, 70.0mm, 1/320s, f/5.0, ISO 800

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is such a photogenic event, I've got thousands of photos from each visit. Publishing a photo at a time as I mostly do on this blog means I certainly won't get through even the good ones here any time soon.

Although the majority of my photography is geared more towards travel and landscapes, motorsport is a passion of mine and getting the chance to photograph the cars in action at such close quarters as is possible at FoS is amazing for me.

I've mentioned before that the rally stage is my favourite place to photograph at Goodwood and it's for shots like this one. It's certainly not a perfect capture, but with the jump being a small one it can be an achievement just to get this much air for the drivers (as they're demo laps, many of the drivers don't try too hard either).

I lucked out here and caught another photographer's flash, nicely illuminating the co-pilot's face which would otherwise be in shade. The lucky part was that it happened for a good shot of one of the more interesting and iconic Group B rally cars: the MG Metro 6R4.
