Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 35.0mm, 1/100s, f/7.1, ISO 400

I just spent a lovely long weekend up north visiting my mother to celebrate her 60th birthday and got a good, if short, refresher of coastal air.

If there's one thing I've noticed since re-focusing my blog on photography and posting some of my better photos of the past 10 years as regularly as I can, it's that a lot of them seem to involve water, particularly the sea or ocean. I wouldn't have picked that as a characteristic of my photography until recently but by chance and circumstance I've certainly found inspiration at the coast wherever I've been, whether it be the north-east of England or west coast of America.

This photo is from the far north-east of England, at Lindisfarne Castle. This was the first holiday Liz and I went on together, along with a large group of my friends (brave of Liz!). We rented a big cottage at Harehope, near Chillingham Castle and spent a few days exploring Northumberland together.

This was the end of a glorious day visiting the puffins on the Farne Islands and the same evening I got this photo of sheep at Lindisfarne.

I've just moved my home office into a new room in our house in preparation for our first child arriving in July and have started to get some photos up on the wall. This is the first one I've printed and framed, at A3 size, and it works really nicely at a larger size.
