Highway 128

Fujifilm X-T1, 18.0mm, 1/60s, f/6.4, ISO 800

Highway 128 in California is a road I discovered a few years ago and always take if I'm in the area, driving up or down the coast.

It's a road that cuts in from Highway 1, the coastal road, and follows the Navarro river inland eventually meeting the 101 and the run back down to San Francisco. What makes it interesting photographically is that it's a beautifully scenic route through the redwood trees of the Navarro River Redwoods State Park, and if you catch the right time of day the light is just fantastic.

I've actually published a photograph from this exact same place (and time) before: a photograph taken with my sadly broken Bronica S2. The above photograph, taken with a Fuji X-T1 and 18-55 lens, is pointing in the other direction and somewhat sharper. I like both.

The light is decent here, though not the best I've seen. We were on our way up to Mendocino and passed through mid-afternoon in time to meet some friends. The first time I drove down this road, heading south, was the morning I got some lovely images of fog rolling in and catching the light at Van Damme Beach. By the time I'd hit the 128 that day the light was still great but I didn't have time to stop and take proper photographs. Definitely one to mark as a location scouted, ready to go back to one day.
