Towering trees at Cragside
A favourite place to visit for me in Northumberland is Cragside: the former home of Lord Armstrong and first 'first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity'. The house is set high on a very rocky, craggy hillside (so the name is apt) and surrounded by some beautiful gardens.
You can approach the house by a long walk through the forest and over the Iron Bridge, an elegantly industrial structure that arcs over the small river running through the wood.
