Well, the quest for sound on my shiny new computer has lead me through a number of emails to Asus who, though surprisingly quick at replying, have basically gone round in circles and got nowhere. As a result, I asked my brother to check into a couple of shops while he was out and see how extortionate the pricing was on the high street for a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum or Fatal1ty (as they both basically appear to be identical, the latter simply having the current hip name on it) - I'm not good at patience, so a separate soundcard (that I was going to leave until a few months down the line) was the obvious quick fix.
