Back from London

I may not have mentioned I was going, but I did. And now I'm back. The reason for the trip was my Mum's birthday back in April, when I bought her tickets to see one of her favourite ballet dancers, Carlos Acosta in his new show, Tocororo. The show was on Saturday, so we drove down on Friday morning to get a night's sleep in following the drive. The show was pretty impressive and I can see how these dancers are so popular, but I have to be honest it's not my thing really. It was a contemporary dance show rather than ballet, but still plenty of ballet 'moves' thrown in. It was entertaining though, with good bits of Cuban modern dance (i.e. jiggling/flailing) mixed in and the 'bad guy' character was quite funny (plus: how do you dance that energetically with a cigar in your mouth?). More importantly, my Mum seemed to really like it. On Friday evening I met up with Ken in London and we got some food while he explained the plethora of job offers he's receiving at the moment. On Saturday morning, we met up again and went with my Mum and Nana (grandmother) to a cafe/restaurant of some uber-famous chef (who is apparently so famous I've forgotten his name), called the Brasserie. We got there and it was fully booked (probably should have connected the whole 'world-famous' and 'need to book' bits together ourselves, but never mind). It had taken us an hour just to find the place down a badly-signposted track to a Marina, so we just went for the simple option after that and drove into Windsor. We still got a very nice lunch at Carluccio's (of another famous chef, Antonio Carluccio), where I enjoyed my Mozarella and Tomato Focaccia hugely until I got to the second half which was over-dosed with salt. After lunch, Ken and I went on the big ferris wheel that was set up by the river and got some good views back across Windsor and the castle. We were even able to lean out the sides of the 'box' to take photos without getting dirty glass in the way. I'll add some of the photos to my flickr collection later.
